Summary

From the Sunday Times bestselling author of Daisy Jones & The Six。

A lifetime holding it together。
One party will bring it crashing down。

Malibu: August, 1983。 It's the day of Nina Riva's annual end-of-summer party, and anticipation is at a fever pitch。 Everyone wants to be around the famous Rivas: Nina, the talented surfer and supermodel; brothers Jay and Hud, one a championship surfer, the other a renowned photographer; and their adored baby sister, Kit。 Together, the siblings are a source of fascination in Malibu and the world over-especially as the offspring of the legendary singer, Mick Riva。

By midnight the party will be completely out of control。
By morning, the Riva mansion will have gone up in flames。

But before that first spark in the early hours before dawn, the alcohol will flow, the music will play, and the loves and secrets that shaped this family's generations will all come bubbling to the surface。

Malibu Rising is a story about one unforgettable night in the life of a family: the night they each have to choose what they will keep from the people who made them 。 。 。 and what they will leave behind。

i officially love taylor jenkins reid! i loved how it went back and forth in time。 one complaint is there was so many characters near the end that i didn’t think was needed but overall really good

it was ok。 felt like it tried to fit too much in。 didn't need the Casey Greens character。 would have been better to develop more of the siblings。 I liked Daisy Jones & the 6 better。 it was ok。 felt like it tried to fit too much in。 didn't need the Casey Greens character。 would have been better to develop more of the siblings。 I liked Daisy Jones & the 6 better。 。。。more

This author tells a good story! I had to Google if these characters were real because of how detailed the story is with real history woven in。 So compelling。

It was fine。 This is the second book by this author that fell a little short of expectations for me, so if you’ve enjoyed other ones she’s written, you’d probably like this one too。

with this being the third book by T。J。Reid that i’ve read, and giving each of them 5 stars, i think i may have to say she’s my favorite author at the moment。 this book was not given as much push from social media as Evelyn Hugo or even Daisy Jones (at least in my feeds), but i loved this story just as much。 the constant switching to the backstory was extremely well done and quite enjoyable。 i’ve read many books that feel drawn out and boring due to that, so i was pleasantly surprised by the way with this being the third book by T。J。Reid that i’ve read, and giving each of them 5 stars, i think i may have to say she’s my favorite author at the moment。 this book was not given as much push from social media as Evelyn Hugo or even Daisy Jones (at least in my feeds), but i loved this story just as much。 the constant switching to the backstory was extremely well done and quite enjoyable。 i’ve read many books that feel drawn out and boring due to that, so i was pleasantly surprised by the way this one was strung together。 without revealing too much of the plot and it’s resolve, i will say that in the final pages, i put the book down more than once to say (aloud), “that was good。”one more thing, i think the way that Reid described the ever-changing family dynamics was incredible。 and i’ve studied family dynamics professionally。 that’s it it was just really good。5/5 stars obviously 。。。more

Honestly。 Not good。 Not good at all。 If you want to read a book about privileged white people for 368 pages then this is the book for you。 None of the characters are fleshed out well the story doesn’t start until about halfway through and it is so predictable in every way imaginable。 The worst part is that the plot is actually pretty good! The storyline about the kids is moving and gives them great character development I just wish it was written by someone better and kept to 150 pages because t Honestly。 Not good。 Not good at all。 If you want to read a book about privileged white people for 368 pages then this is the book for you。 None of the characters are fleshed out well the story doesn’t start until about halfway through and it is so predictable in every way imaginable。 The worst part is that the plot is actually pretty good! There is something about a TJR book that makes me so happy。 I love Nina and getting to know this family。 I kept expecting there to be this big plot twist or something that never happened。 Very character driven

4/4。5 starsDefinitely worth the read for fans of Evelyn Hugo。 Taylor Jenkins Reid recaptures the glamour and pizzaz of old Hollywood in a way that makes you feel part of the scene。 Dazzled by the glitz yet privy to the darker side fame entails, this story sets out to follow the Riva siblings and retroactively tells the story of June and Mick Riva。The author really drives the point home when she explains how June and Mick’s story was perceived differently by each sibling - and how this in turn ha 4/4。5 starsDefinitely worth the read for fans of Evelyn Hugo。 Taylor Jenkins Reid recaptures the glamour and pizzaz of old Hollywood in a way that makes you feel part of the scene。 Dazzled by the glitz yet privy to the darker side fame entails, this story sets out to follow the Riva siblings and retroactively tells the story of June and Mick Riva。The author really drives the point home when she explains how June and Mick’s story was perceived differently by each sibling - and how this in turn has helped shape them into the person they become。With witty dialogue and hilarious descriptions that had me laughing at times, Taylor shows that family is not something you choose, or are necessarily equipped to handle - and yet to stick by them through thick and thin makes all the experiences that much richer ( especially if they involve surfing near the Malibu Bay)! 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I don’t think many books could match how enthralled and invested I was in the first half of the book。 I was in the second as well but something about learning about June and Micks story just drew me in。 June was such a great mother and person and I thrive to be that。 She didn’t know how special she was and if I could go up to Mick Riva and give a formal fuck you with a kick to the shin I would。 I love the Riva kids so much and Nina carry’s so much weight and responsibility。 She is such a strong I don’t think many books could match how enthralled and invested I was in the first half of the book。 I was in the second as well but something about learning about June and Micks story just drew me in。 June was such a great mother and person and I thrive to be that。 She didn’t know how special she was and if I could go up to Mick Riva and give a formal fuck you with a kick to the shin I would。 I love the Riva kids so much and Nina carry’s so much weight and responsibility。 She is such a strong character and I feel so much for her。 Kit is literally me。 I am Kit。 We are the same。 I already knew she was a lesbian before it was confirmed。 All the signs were there and I was just wondering what turn the book would take with that。 I would like to let tjr know if they would like to write in a bisexual named heidi as kits girlfriend I would absolutely adore that and fully support。 Our thoughts are so alike and I see myself so much in Kit as the youngest sibling。 。。。more

The story of the last epic Riva party in the 1980’s in Malibu takes some time to build, but it was worth it to me。 The first few pages were slow, but once we got to the story of June and Mick I was hooked。 I love the way this author writes characters—it is impossible for me not to become invested。 The Riva children went through so much, and I wanted for them to have the world。 Nina is the most compelling, and the others really only get to scratch the surface。 I enjoyed it a lot。 Just good storyt The story of the last epic Riva party in the 1980’s in Malibu takes some time to build, but it was worth it to me。 The first few pages were slow, but once we got to the story of June and Mick I was hooked。 I love the way this author writes characters—it is impossible for me not to become invested。 The Riva children went through so much, and I wanted for them to have the world。 Nina is the most compelling, and the others really only get to scratch the surface。 I enjoyed it a lot。 Just good storytelling。 。。。more

2 / 5 ⭐️This book was bland to me。 I don’t know if it was because of the third person perspective or the mass amount of characters perspectives she gave for no apparent reason, but I did not like it。 At no point was I enthralled to continue reading the book。 Unfortunately, I did because of my book club。 It wasn’t the most painful book I’ve endured, but god was it boring。 The 7 husbands was slightly better because of the 1st person perspective which makes what the characters are going through sli 2 / 5 ⭐️This book was bland to me。 I don’t know if it was because of the third person perspective or the mass amount of characters perspectives she gave for no apparent reason, but I did not like it。 At no point was I enthralled to continue reading the book。 Unfortunately, I did because of my book club。 It wasn’t the most painful book I’ve endured, but god was it boring。 The 7 husbands was slightly better because of the 1st person perspective which makes what the characters are going through slightly more believable, but this was horrid。 And the over sexualizing??

4。5 stars。 I really enjoyed this book。 I liked the Rivas siblings。 I liked the character growth over the course of a day, but also a life。 I liked Nina the most as I saw myself in her。 I enjoyed the dual timelines and I liked how the whole thing ended。 Just an enjoyable read (listen) from start to finish。

4。5 stars! Another book finished in under 6 hours! This is not helpful not sustainable for doing online school but it sure is entertaining。 This book was not quite as good as seven husbands but I loved it。 The siblings relationships were just all so good and I must say that I just love how Reid can establish deeply complex relationships and still show the love and anger and forgiveness within。 I really did enjoy it but I don’t think it was the most insanely amazing book I’ve ever read。
